Lives and works in Utrecht, regularly taking part in projects in Portugal, the Netherlands and other countries. Holds a BA in Fine Arts, from the School of Fine Arts – University of Porto (2012) – and an MA in Fine Arts & Design, focused on artistic research, from the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht (2019). Ana Linhares was represented by KubikGallery (Porto) from 2013 to 2023. Among other prizes and grants, Ana was the recipient of the research grant from Foundation Calouste Gulbenkian 2018-2019, Nominee for Novo Banco Revelação 2018 at Fundação de Serralves (Portugal) and awarded the beeldende kunsten grant from Het Cultuurfonds 2025 (Netherlands).
Ana Linhares works with long-term research projects, which are then presented or exhibited during their different stages. Among them is ‘On Constellations’ (2017-2022), which is centered around archives, images and storytelling and their intersection with colonial narratives. While exploring archival practices, storytelling and the deconstruction of colonial narratives, the work embraces diverse media such as installation, video, image and text. The work methodologies rely considerably on experimental work and research, using montage and composition in order to suggest new interpretations and possibilities in narrative and knowledge as well as deconstruction of fascist values.
Recently, Ana Linhares’ work interests have been extending to archival practices on Queer and Crip Temporalities within a community or institution. For the last 4 years, Ana has been researching the intersections of Crip and Queer Temporalities, connecting narratives, archival practice and theory, history, Crip theory and Gender theory.
Different parts of this research have been displayed at Casco Art Institute (Utrecht, NL), Hotel Maria Kapel (Hoorn, NL), The Pool - SpringBoard Art Fair 2023 (Utrecht, NL), Sismógrafo (Porto, PT) and Hans C (Dortmund, DE).
