My name is Ana Linhares (b. 1990, Portugal), I live and work in Utrecht, regularly taking part in projects in Portugal and Spain. I hold a BA in Fine Arts, specializing in Painting, from the University of Porto (FBAUP, 2012) and a MA in Fine Arts & Design, focused on Artistic Research, from the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht (HKU, 2019).
Currently I’m working on an ongoing research project On Constellations centered on archives, images and storytelling and their intersection with colonial narratives. This project has been supported by a research grant from Foundation Calouste Gulbenkian, Portugal. On Constellations started in 2017 in the context of the Master research and has developed for the last 2 years into different phases. While exploring archival practices, storytelling and the deconstruction of colonial narratives, my work embraces diverse media such as installation, video, image and text. My work methodologies rely considerable on an experiemtal work and research, using montage and composition in order to sugest new interpretations and possibilities in narrative and knowledge.
The first edition of the project Cabinet of Constellations was nominated for the Novo Banco Revelação 2018 Prize and exhibited at the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art in Porto. The second phase, Cabinet of Constellations: How to tell the story of a gap? was presented at KubikGallery in Porto (2019). The most recent development of the project ‘On Constellations: Reading through the Gaps’ was presented in FUTURES WITHOUT - HKU MA Graduation Show, curated by Katia Krupennikova at BAK, Utrecht (2019) and featured in Metropolis M - Eindexamens 2019 publication.
I have been undergoing my artistic practice since 2012, taking part in multiple solo and collective projects and exhibitions while working with KubikGallery in Porto since 2013.
