Ana Linhares, they/them (PT, 1990) is currently in residency at Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten (2026-2027) in Amsterdam.
Holds a BA in Fine Arts, from the School of Fine Arts – University of Porto (2012) – and an MA in Fine Arts & Design, focused on artistic research, from the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht (2019). Among other prizes and grants, Ana was the recipient of the research grant from Foundation Calouste Gulbenkian 2018-2019, Nominee for Novo Banco Revelação 2018 at Fundação de Serralves (Portugal) and awarded the beeldende kunsten grant from Het Cultuurfonds 2026 (Netherlands).

Ana Linhares works with long-term research projects, which are presented or exhibited during their different stages. During the last years they have been approaching decolonial theory and archival practices alongside with Crip and Queer Temporalities. Having experience as an archivist, Ana is interested in what makes an archive and what gets lost, erased and silenced. Which politics (re)arrange a collection? And who is the voice of an archive?

While exploring archival practices, storytelling and the deconstruction of colonial narratives and imagery, they work with diverse media, such as installation, image, text and sculpture. The work methodologies rely considerably on experimental work and research, using montage and composition in order to suggest new interpretations and possibilities in narrative and knowledge as well as deconstruction of fascist values.

Recently, Ana Linhares has been working with Queer and Crip Temporalities and how one finds a space within a normative capitalist and (post)colonial society. Influenced by cinema and literature, they have also been interested in how queers and crips find a home in the horror genre. What happens when one detours and finds themselves ‘outside their time’?

How does one become a monster?
